Outdoor displays

Light, reflections, heat and ingress protection.

An outdoor installation requires light, reflections, temperature, water, dust, structure and maintenance access to be considered together. A brightness value or an IP code alone does not resolve the project. Start with the site and request validation of the complete solution, including its enclosure and ventilation.

What to look at first

Distinguish exposed outdoor, sheltered outdoor and behind-glass installations. Shop-window or enclosure glazing can add reflections and heat buildup. Record sun direction, exposure times, obstructions and the ability to dim at night. Site permissions and structural calculations belong to the professionals responsible for the project; this guide does not certify an installation or prescribe a universal protection level.

Three questions for your project

  1. Has it been tested in the most difficult light?
  2. Which components does the protection test cover?
  3. How are filters, seals and ventilation inspected?

One step you can take today

Walk through the site with the operations team. Gather real content samples, reading positions and maintenance conditions. Use the related guides to document requirements and the workshop to organize what is known and what is pending.

  • IEC · IP ratings ↗

IP codes concern ingress of solids and water. They do not by themselves certify thermal management or sunlight readability.
