DIRECT ANSWER
Compare touch technologies through the actions the user will perform. Response depends on the touch sensor, display cover glass, controller and software together. Test writing, taps, edges, cleaning and use conditions. If gloves or a particular stylus are required, demand a demonstration with those items rather than assuming compatibility.
Do not buy by touch-point count
In meetings, several people may write; at a kiosk, one person may complete a task with a single touch. Specify actions, number of users and actual devices. A touch-point count does not establish accuracy, writing ease or the quality of palm rejection.
Capacitive and infrared: test the assembly
Capacitive sensors detect changes in an electric field; infrared systems use an optical grid around the active touch area. These are descriptions of operation, not quality rankings. Construction and integration can change behavior. Ask the vendor to explain limitations involving gloves, contact objects, the display bezel, lighting and display cover glass for the proposed model.
The interface drives much of the result
Use distinguishable controls, clear text and a visible exit. Do not rely on color alone to show an error. Test from the start through the end of the task and offer an alternative if touch fails. WCAG guides digital content and interface design; it does not replace a review of physical access to the device.

| Criterion | Need | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Writing | Stroke and palm rejection | Write with the actual user |
| Self-service | Controls and confirmation | Finish the task without help |
| Gloved use | Specific compatibility | Test the intended glove |
| Cleaning | Material and coating | Manufacturer procedure |
Action checklist
- Test sensor and software together.
- Check edges and writing response.
- Validate gloves or styluses if required.
- Check controls and error messages.
- Agree cleaning and service alternatives.
Document the result of each action and assign an owner for what remains pending.
Common questions
Is capacitive always better?
No. Compare the assembly and its limitations against the specific tasks and environment.
Does WCAG certify the complete kiosk?
No. It is a digital reference; physical access and installation require a separate review.
